Memories

Kay’s memories…. Bonfires, going for walks, letting her drive the car sitting on his knee. Grandad’s Boiledy eggs on a Sunday morning, the little pile of salt on the side of his plate during meals. Going shopping to Mr Maggs’s, on Saturday mornings. Larnie remembers…. games in the garden. Grandad chasing them, stomping his feet to scare them. Pretending to throw a tennis ball into the clouds but as the children gazed up at the sky he then produced it like magic back in his hand!! He also always promised to get a motorised skate-board, to keep up with Nan’s buggy! Izzi remembers Grandad was always singing….. In the car –it tended to be “we’re off, we’re off, and we’re off in a motor car. 50 Bobbies are after us and we don’t know where we are!! “When Izzi’s rabbit died she was sat crying as granddad buried it and then proceeded to stamp on it to flatten the ground back down. Abby remembers Trips to Budgens where he always asked for pensioners discount at the till! Also how Grandad always tried to give them £5 when they were going home without Nanna seeing… When it snowed the fun they had going sledging in the park near St Owens. Nathan remembers - The sound of grandad’s razor in the mornings when he was walking round the house having a shave. One day he was given an axe to help chop some wood, and then granddad pretended that Nathan had accidentally chopped one of his fingers off!! When the kids asked for a bedtime story granddad would oblige …” there once was a prince and a princess, they got married and lived happily ever after... the End….. He then would leave the room making a frog noise as he left …. The most resounding memory of all the grandchildren was…. One summer, they were all sat outside eating tea. Then Abigail, who had finished hers, left the table without asking. Grandad shouted at her and told her to sit down. Abby ran away, so grandad jumped up and chased after her. Unfortunately he wasn’t looking where he was going and went straight into the pond. He came out looking like a scary green monster covered in pond weed. All the kids burst out laughing and nana told then to stop it but it was so funny that even she had to go indoors so they couldn’t see her laughing out loud too Vanessa and Rowena said that their dad was always welcoming to their friends regardless of who they were or what haircut they sported that particular week. No matter what difficulties they encountered in life, Rowena and Vanessa said he would always help and support them. Robin was a fantastic father and grandfather to his family and they all loved and adored him and will miss him terribly, but at the same time are grateful for the wonderful happy memories they all have of their time together.
