Robin's Story - Page 1

• Robin was born 07/08/1937 at the village shop in Old Weston, Huntingdonshire where his Father was the Sub Postmaster at the time. • His Parents originated from the nearby village of Hammerton and both contributed a lot to the local community and especially the local church. • Robin’s early years were very much spent with his elder Cousin, Eileen who lived not too far away in the village of Polebrook and many happy times were spent together between their respective homes and on holidays at the seaside. • When Robin was 2 he had an unfortunate accident when in a field, he got too close to a herd of cows and was flicked in the eye with a cow’s tail. This incident at the time was brushed aside as it appeared to be just a swelling but this incident was to play a major part in the career he was to undertake later in life. I will come back to this incident later on. • Old Weston was and still is an idyllic little village, made up of many cottages and farms and it was certainly a nice place to grow up. Around 1940, the Family moved from the shop to the house next door called Sherwood and it was here that Robin grew up. • In September 1942 his little Brother, Alan arrived on the scene and life was never going to be quite the same again. Robin was a quiet laid back sort of chap and his brother was the complete opposite and I must admit he still is.
