Roin's Story - Page 3

• As already mentioned, Robin and his Brother were very different characters indeed. Robin was so laid back that he was always nearly late for the School bus in the mornings when going to Grammar School, leaving it to the very last minute to get out of bed and normally getting on the bus whilst still eating his toast. He was also a bit of a poser and spent hours in front of the mirror combing his hair, especially in the evenings just before going to bed. His bother would enquire as to why he was combing his hair just before bedtime and the reply was “you never know who you might meet in your dreams”. Like a typical elder Brother he would enjoy scaring his little brother with ghost stories and generally winding him up. • When Robin was 9 his Parents sent him to school at Spaldwick where his Aunt Gwen was Head Mistress. He would cycle there and back each day which was a 9 mile round trip and this is something his Brother would undertake as well 5 years later. They were both sent there in order to pass the 11 plus exam so they could both go to Grammar School. His Parents need not be concerned as Robin was a very bright lad and gained entry to Huntingdon Grammar School. • Whist at Grammar School he excelled both academically and in sport. He gained 3 A Levels in Maths, Physics and Geography. In sport he particularly excelled at Athletics and won many awards for both the School and at County level. He also played Cricket for the School. It was here whilst at Huntingdon Grammar School that he first met Thelma and thus a long partnership would develop in due course.
